Easter holiday brings increased traffic across the Storebælt Bridge
The Easter holiday is just around the corner, and for many Danes it means Easter lunches, family visits and trips to summer houses. This also means increased traffic across the country – especially on the Storebælt Bridge, which connects Denmark.
Traffic forecasts show that during the Easter holiday in 2026 there will be periods of heavy traffic in both directions. This applies in particular to the typical outbound and return travel days.
The busiest travel days towards Funen and Jutland will be Wednesday 1 April and Maundy Thursday, 2 April. Traffic heading west will be particularly heavy on Thursday between 09:00 and 14:00.
As we approach the end of the Easter holiday, traffic will be heaviest towards Zealand. Sunday 5 April will be the busiest return travel day, with the densest traffic in the westbound direction between 11:00 and 18:00.
On busy travel days, queues may occur at times. To ensure the most comfortable journey across the Storebælt Bridge, Head of Toll Operations Jens Kjær Nielsen has a few recommendations.
“We recommend using a Brobizz or licence plate payment so you can pass quickly through the toll station. If you want to avoid heavy traffic, it is a good idea to plan your journey outside peak periods. We encourage everyone to drive carefully and show consideration for one another on the road,” says Jens Kjær Nielsen.

If you have not yet set up licence plate payment, you can do so free of charge at Brobizz.com. It will be active on the Storebælt Bridge after approximately 20 minutes.
Pylons lit in yellow to celebrate easter
To mark the public holidays and the longer days, we will illuminate the pylons in yellow from Friday 3 April through Monday 6 April. The lighting will be on from dusk until midnight.
