New cable access platform to cause traffic changes on the Storebælt Bridge

On the evening of Tuesday 6 October, Sund & Bælt will test a newly developed specialist platform for the maintenance of the Storebælt Bridge’s main suspension cables for the first time. The platform will help ensure that the link can continue to be kept in peak condition without disrupting traffic. The platform will be lifted into position by crane, which will result in temporary traffic changes on the bridge.

When the school summer holidays begin on Friday, traffic will increase significantly. Saturdays and Sundays between 10.00 and 17.00 in particular will be busy across Storebælt.

Maintenance Affects Traffic on the Storebælt Bridge Next Week

From Monday, June 2, to Wednesday, June 4, maintenance work will be carried out on the Great Belt Bridge during the evening and nighttime hours. During this period, there will be two-way traffic. The bridge will be temporarily closed several times to redirect traffic.

Cycling race over the Great Belt affects traffic on Saturday

On Saturday, September 7, 2024, over 2,000 cyclists will cross the Great Belt as part of Denmark's longest recreational cycling race from Aarhus to Copenhagen. The bridge will remain open throughout the race, but longer travel times are expected. Therefore, leave home early and preferably cross the Great Belt before 1:00 PM or after 9:00 PM.

Gran Fondo cycling event, Saturday 2 September

On Saturday 2 September, over 4,500 cyclists will cross the Storebælt Bridge as part of the Gran Fondo cycling event. The bridge will be open throughout the event, but longer travel times may occur if you are going to Funen or Jutland. Please set off in good time and preferably cross the bridge before 14:00 or after 20:00.

Arrange your travel plans before the Tour de France hits Denmark

Traffic will be affected in large parts of the country when three stages of the Tour de France in Denmark are run this summer. In particular, the closure of the Storebælt Bridge for several hours on one of the busiest travel days of the year will affect many travellers. It’s best to plan your journey now so you can be sure of getting your holiday off to a good start or getting to and from one of the many events in the Danish summer calendar on the first weekend of July.
