Summer traffic on Storebælt
On Friday, the summer holidays truly begin, and this will be noticeable in the traffic across Storebælt. Already this coming weekend, when schools across the country break up for summer, traffic is expected to increase significantly according to forecasts. Not only on the Storebælt Bridge, but across the entire country.
Sund & Bælt generally expects more traffic throughout the summer, with weekends in particular bringing periods of heavy traffic and increased journey time. In the direction towards Funen and Jutland, the busiest periods will typically be Saturdays and Sundays between 10.00 and 14.00, while traffic towards Zealand will peak between 11.00 and 17.00.
“We are many travelling across Storebælt during the holidays, and this will be noticeable on the bridge, especially on Saturdays and Sundays. We therefore encourage drivers to use the express lanes with a bizz or number plate payment. Pack the car with a little extra patience and a good mood if you are travelling during the busy periods, and show consideration for others on the road,” says Jens Kjær Nielsen, Head of the toll booth at the Storebælt Bridge.
- Check that your number plate payment or bizz is active before you set off, so you avoid getting stuck at the toll station. You can do this at Brobizz.com.
- Mount the bizz on your windscreen by the rear-view mirror so that the system can read it correctly.
- With number plate payment or a bizz, you automatically get the best price for your journey across the bridge, and with a standard passenger car you save DKK 30 each way.
- The number plate agreement is active within 20 minutes of registration.
- Check traffic forecasts as well as weather and traffic conditions before departure at Storebaelt.dk. If you would like updates about conditions on the bridge, you can sign up to Storebælt’s 48-hour SMS service by sending a text message with the word “BRO INFO” to 1245.
