This Friday marks the start of the school holidays, and for many, that means a trip across the Storebælt on the way to their holiday destination. As a result, traffic will already increase significantly over the weekend – not just on the bridge, but across the entire country.
Sund & Bælt generally expects increased traffic throughout the summer, especially on weekends, where periods of heavy traffic and longer travel times are likely. The busiest times heading towards Funen and Jutland will be Saturdays and Sundays between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM. In the direction of Zealand, traffic is heaviest on Saturdays and Sundays between 11:00 AM and 5:00 PM.
“Many of us will be crossing the Storebælt during the holidays, and that will of course be felt on the bridge – especially Saturdays and Sundays, which are major travel days. We therefore encourage drivers to use our express lanes with a bizz or license plate payment to get through the toll station quickly. However, due to the many extra holiday travelers, you should be prepared for longer travel times during peak periods,” says Jens Kjær, Head of the Toll Station at the Great Belt Bridge.
If you don’t yet have license plate payment set up, you can register for free at Brobizz.com. The agreement becomes active within 20 minutes on the Great Belt Bridge.
It’s also a good idea to check traffic forecasts and current conditions at Storebaelt.dk before heading off on your holiday.
