Cycling race over the Great Belt affects traffic on Saturday

On Saturday, September 7, 2024, over 2,000 cyclists will cross the Great Belt as part of Denmark's longest recreational cycling race from Aarhus to Copenhagen. The bridge will remain open throughout the race, but longer travel times are expected. Therefore, leave home early and preferably cross the Great Belt before 1:00 PM or after 9:00 PM.

On Saturday 2 September, over 4,500 cyclists will cross the Storebælt Bridge as part of the Gran Fondo cycling event. The bridge will be open throughout the event, but longer travel times may occur if you are going to Funen or Jutland. Please set off in good time and preferably cross the bridge before 14:00 or after 20:00.

Traffic will be affected in large parts of the country when three stages of the Tour de France in Denmark are run this summer. In particular, the closure of the Storebælt Bridge for several hours on one of the busiest travel days of the year will affect many travellers. It’s best to plan your journey now so you can be sure of getting your holiday off to a good start or getting to and from one of the many events in the Danish summer calendar on the first weekend of July.
